Pretzel Loves Apostrophe!

Our Pretzel Loves Apostrophe room is furnished with  Paul Frankl’s Pretzel Sofa with 5 strands  designed in the 40’s, perfectly combined with  Heywood Wakefield Mid Century Modern,  apostrophe end table, coffee table and lamps,  all of these mid-century modern  vintage pieces,  complement each other to create a very tropical retro ambiance.

The sofa’s have been  newly upholstered in retro–Mid Century style fabrics offering the  Old Florida feel  we, at South Beach Place Hotel in Vero Beach Florida,  strive to provide our guests.

Paul Frankl was an art deco furniture designer and maker, an architect, painter and writer from Vienna Austria.  He moved to New York in 1914 part of a migration of Central European artist like Kem Weber, Rudolph Schindler and Richard Neutra seeking  the creative energy of  America.  Frankl  moved to Los Angeles in 1934 and opened a gallery on Rodeo Drive, inBeverly Hills, his clients included Fred Astaire, Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, and Alfred Hitchcock.   It was in California where he was influenced by the Asian arts, and  began to work with rattan frames. In  the 1940’s he became the first designer to incorporate free-form shapes into furniture.  It is documented that his designs and aesthetics influenced movie set design.

Heywood Wakefield was established in 1897, it became a very important furniture design and manufacturing US Company.  Their older products are highly collectibles, especially their Mid Century pieces produced  in the 40’s and 50’s. Our apostrophe table, end tables and table lamps are all attributed to Heywood Wakefield 1940’s bamboo, rattan and wood furniture designs.

We at South Beach Place Hotel in Vero Beach are constantly searching for collectible pieces.  We lucked out in finding our  Pretzel Sofa, and Apostrophe end-table, and the rest of the pieces that complement this rooms designs.  We have meticulously and lovingly refurbished these pieces giving them a new life for our guests enjoyment.

Welcome to  our lovely South Beach Place- we strive  to re-create a retro vibe complementing the design of our 1950’s mid-century cat walk building, the results are reminiscent of Old Florida,  mixing  collectible pieces into all of our room themes.
